ごあいさつ

私たちの祖先から家宝の筆頭として伝えられてきた日本刀は、我が国独特の鍛錬法により製作された世界無比の文化財です。

日本刀に対して、私たち日本人は郷愁のような愛着と、かつて武士の魂として佩刀された日本刀に心中深く畏敬の念を抱いております。

1,000年以上の歴史を持つ日本刀、そして銘鑑によれば刀匠は2〜3万名とも想像されていますが日本刀は五ヶ伝（大和伝・備前伝・山城伝・相州伝・美濃伝の5つ）中のいずれかの伝法に属する作柄です。

中学1年生から刀の研ぎを始め、昭和47年9月に文化庁から鍛刀許可を得て刀鍛冶となり、営々と刀に関する諸工作も手がけてきた刀匠福津久が、念願のさむらい刀剣博物館を創設いたしました。

必ず愛刀家各位の心の琴線に触れ共感をいただけるものと確信いたしております。

Japanese swords, handed down from our ancestors as treasured　heirlooms, are unparalleled cultural assets crafted through Japan’s unique forging techniques.

For Japanese people, these swords evoke a deep sense of affection and nostalgia, as well as profound reverence for the spirit of the samurai who once carried them.

Japanese swords have a history of more than 1,000 years. According to swordsmith directories, there may have been as many as 20,000 to 30,000 swordsmiths throughout history. Their works are generally classified into one of the Five Traditions: Yamato, Bizen, Yamashiro, Soshu, and Mino.

Fukutsugu, a swordsmith who began studying sword polishing in his first year of junior high school, received approval as a swordsmith from the Agency for Cultural Affairs in September 1972. Over the years, he has devoted himself to various aspects of Japanese sword craftsmanship.

With the establishment of the Samurai Sword Museum, he has finally realized his long-cherished dream.

We sincerely hope that this museum will resonate deeply with sword enthusiasts and all those who appreciate the beauty and spirit of Japanese swords.

刀匠・研師

柳田律夫プロフィール

昭和22年11月25日生　柳田律夫【刀匠銘　福津久（ふくつぐ）】

県立真岡高校1年生時、刀剣研磨・鑑定を志し、荒井研師（栃木県小山市）に師事。

昭和42年4月

大久保和平鍛刀所（神奈川県藤沢市）に入門。

昭和43年1月

人間国宝刀剣鑑定研師永山光幹氏（神奈川県大磯町）に師事。

昭和46年3月

東海大学工学部精密機械専攻、卒業。

昭和47年9月

文化庁より刀匠の承認を受け「美術日本刀鍛錬研磨柳田研究所」を創設。

昭和50年7月

本阿弥家刀剣鑑定奥伝位免許を受ける。

昭和51年3月

栃木県二宮町（現真岡市）無形文化財保持者の指定を受ける。

財団法人日本美術刀剣保存協会主催研磨技術等発表会「研磨の部」上位入選7回。

昭和53〜56年

財団法人日本美術刀剣保存協会主催新作名刀展各年上位入選。

昭和61〜63年

全日本抜刀道大会第1位、連続して内閣総理大臣賞受賞。

平成2年11月

天皇陛下即位之礼御刀研磨総合工作を承り、同月5日宮内庁へ納品。

平成6年7月

「さむらい刀剣博物館」を創設し、一般に開放する。

Ritsuo Yanagita

Swordsmith and Polisher

Born on November 25, 1947

Swordsmith name: Fukutsugu（福津久）

During his first year at Moka Prefectural High School, he decided to pursue the study of sword polishing and appraisal, and apprenticed under Polisher Arai in Oyama City, Tochigi Prefecture.

April 1967

Entered the Okubo Wahei Sword Forge in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

January 1968

Apprenticed under Kokan Nagayama, a Living National Treasure and master sword appraiser and polisher, in Oiso Town, Kanagawa Prefecture.

March 1971

Graduated from the Precision Machinery Engineering program in the Faculty of Engineering at Tokai University.

September 1972

Received approval as a swordsmith from the Agency for Cultural Affairs and founded the Yanagita Institute for the Art of Japanese Sword Forging, Polishing, and Research.

July 1975

Received an Okuden license in sword appraisal from the Hon’ami family.

March 1976

Designated as a holder of Intangible Cultural Property by Ninomiya Town, now Moka City, Tochigi Prefecture.

Achieved top rankings seven times in the Polishing Division at the Polishing Techniques Exhibition hosted by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai.

1978–1981

Achieved top rankings each year at the New Sword Exhibition hosted by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai.

1986–1988

Won first place at the All Japan Battodo Championship and received the Prime Minister’s Award in consecutive years.

November 1990

Entrusted with the comprehensive polishing and mounting work for the Imperial Sword used in the Enthronement Ceremony of His Majesty the Emperor, and delivered it to the Imperial Household Agency on the 5th of the same month.

July 1994

Established the Samurai Sword Museum and opened it to the public.
